Award-winning Chartered Marketer and Associate Lecturer with considerable experience of start-up, small business, event and charity marketing. Senior practitioner, able to deliver successful campaigns and events from scratch. Very strong flair for communications, reaching the target audience through every appropriate channel: compelling story-telling through PR, advertising and social media; creative newsletters (email and direct mail); inspiring yet functional websites; and accurate segmentation of CRM.

After her Art History degree, Tessa took a Diploma in Printing and Publishing and set up the publicity department for Alan Sutton Publishing. Since then she has specialised in marketing, working for a top 50 charity. She is a self-starter, setting up Colour in the Cotswolds in 1995. This was a successful 18-year programme of art courses, attracting a loyal worldwide customer-base of committed artists. As a seasoned marketer, she has worked closely with graphic designers, illustrators and photographers. As a business owner she knows every aspect of the day-to-day running of a small enterprise. Tessa is a qualified Chartered Marketer (Chartered Institute of Marketing) and a full member of the Institute of Fundraising.

Recently, Tessa has...

  • ... launched, grown and marketed successful 18-year programme of art courses, engaging an international, loyal customer base with repeat business year on year. Achieved high profile national press coverage by publishing a cook book and telling the story behind the business.
  • ... launched, directed and promoted award-winning biennial ‘Cotswold Open Studios: Hidden Treasures’, generating about £25,000 of new business over each weekend (2011 and 2013). Grew each event to over 4,000 visitors from all over the country on a very limited budget.
  • ... won PR and Marketing Campaign of the Year in 2012 and 2014 at the Cirencester Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. Also, runner up in the Creatives Champion Award 2013 (by public vote).
  • ... devised, written and now delivering a short business course/series of workshops at the University of the West of England, equipping creative undergraduates with appropriate business skills.
  • ... researched and produced a doable strategy for Habitat for Humanity GB’s volunteer programme. This led to a six-month contract as Marketing Director: increased efficiency; helped to raise over £100,000; refreshed corporate presentations and legacy material; re-launched supporter magazine and annual review; and created hard-hitting brand awareness ads – all alongside day-to-day marketing activity.
  • ... created a motivational ‘Dragon’s Den’ event to inspire the next generation of business women.

All of the above have involved: devising business and marketing plans; briefing graphic designers and photographers; putting together promotional material, advertising and direct mail campaigns; working with journalists; dealing with printers; creating websites from scratch; copywriting; management of complex promotional campaigns; email creation, sends and analysis; social media strategy and day-to-day management; writing press releases and features; negotiating serial rights and features with national magazines; website management; organising events; and teaching, guiding and mentoring.
